A daily reality that we all live in is the “Climate Change”.
This should not be an alibi for our mistakes and omissions. Forest fires are the biggest risk of forest destruction in Greece.
Fires have always existed, but this phenomenon has intensified in recent decades. The human factor with its interventions, direct or indirect, made the country more prone to catastrophic fires. Efforts in recent years to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, have been inadequate; temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, significantly disrupting the ecosystem
If we look back to the recent past, we will find huge forest fires [e.g. Peloponnese 2007, Mati 2019, etc.], which caused great losses, both in “Places” and “People”. Reaching today [Fokida, Attica, Evia, Peloponnese, Northern Greece, etc.; August 2021] based on statistics it is reported that in just one week more than 1,000,000 acres were burned throughout Greece. Unfortunately, the causes of these fires are mainly due to natural man-made causes, such as arson or negligence.
Flora and fauna
Forest fires in recent years are growing steadily and rapidly, destroying much of the country’s natural wealth. They create great destruction in flora and fauna, disrupting not only the ecosystem, but also the economy of the “Place”.In this context, the Society of Social Psychiatry P. Sakellaropoulos, implements in Fokida the Erasmus + Program: ”Discovering Resilience: People, Places and Communities” (“Breakthrough for Resilience: People, Places and Communities”). Τhe aim of the program is, through experiential seminars, exercises and targeted actions, to explore the connection between “resilience” and people, places and communities. New concepts and tools related to the conservation of natural places will be introduced and explore with people who face mental health issues.
